Manga: Sengoku Youko, Vol. 1

Hace poco me reconcilié con el shonen. He tenido una relación frustrante tras la cual decidí enfocarme más en el seinen, historias más adultas y sin esos clichés que odio. Sin embargo, encontré una serie que me encantó y me tuvo enganchado leyendo de principio a fin: Sengoku Youko, Volume 1, por Satoshi Mizukami. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

El mundo está dividido en dos facciones: humanos y monstruos llamados katawara. A pesar de ser una katawara, Tama ama a los humanos y promete protegerlos del mal, incluso si eso significa luchar contra los de su propia especie. Su hermanastro Jinka, sin embargo, odia a los humanos, a pesar de que en su mayoría es uno. A los hermanos se une un espadachín cobarde llamado Shinsuke, que quiere aprender a volverse fuerte.

¡Las personas que conozcan, los lugares que vean y las criaturas con las que luchen serán legendarios!

Tengo que empezar diciendo que este un shonen diferente. No hay un protagonista débil que lucha desesperadamente por volverse poderoso. Aquí los dos hermanos son de temer porque, si bien Jinka es el que se encarga de las peleas en todo el tomo, es obvio que Tama no se quedará atrás. Lo mismo pasa con los compañeros con los que se topan.

Al principio no había una historia como tal, sentí que sería una especie de aventuras auto conclusivas o que no llevarían a un punto específico. Luego me llevo la sorpresa cuando esta aparece, ¡y de qué manera! Literalmente me quedé pegado a la pantalla leyendo sin parar, con muchas más ganas y más emocionado, hasta que llegué el final.

El arte tampoco se queda atrás. Destacan los diseños de los personajes, de los monstruos, y la atmósfera de diversas escenas. La estética cruda y poco cuidada va muy de la mano con esta historia, haciendo la experiencia más envolvente de lo que uno esperaría al principio. ¡Todo muy bien cuidado y con un excelente resultado!

Me quedé con ganas de saber más sobre Jinka y Tama, un poco más de desarrollo sobre ellos como personajes, y quedé súper intrigado con el tema de los experimentos, así que estaré esperando el próximo volumen con muchas ganas. Sengoku Youko, Volume 1 te atrapa en el momento ideal para no dejarte escapar, igual de implacable que su chico principal.

I recently reconciled with shonen. I've had a frustrating relationship after which I decided to focus more on seinen, more adult stories and without those clichés that I hate. However, I found a series that I loved and kept me reading from beginning to end: Sengoku Youko, Volume 1, by Satoshi Mizukami. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

The world is divided into two factions: humans and monsters called katawara. Despite being a katawara, Tama loves humans and vows to protect them from evil, even if it means fighting her own kind. Her stepbrother Jinka, however, hates humans, despite mostly being one. The siblings are joined by a cowardly swordsman named Shinsuke, who wants to learn how to become strong. 

The people they meet, places they see, and creatures they battle will be legendary!

I have to start by saying that this is a different shonen. There's no weak protagonist desperately struggling to become powerful. Here the two siblings are to be feared because, although Jinka is the one in charge of the fights throughout the volume, it's obvious that Tama will not be left behind. The same goes for the companions they run into.

At the beginning there wasn't a story as such, I felt that it would be a kind of self-contained adventures or that they would not lead to a specific point. Then it surprises me when it appears, and in what way! I literally stayed glued to the screen reading without stopping, with much more desire and more excitement, until I reached the end.

Art is not far behind either. The designs of the characters, the monsters, and the atmosphere of various scenes stand out. The raw and careless aesthetic goes very hand in hand with this story, making the experience more immersive than one would expect at first. Everything very well cared for and with an excellent result!

I was left wanting to know more about Jinka and Tama, a little more development on them as characters, and I was super intrigued with the subject of experiments, so I'll be looking forward to the next volume. Sengoku Youko, Volume 1 catches you at the ideal moment to not let you escape, just as relentless as his main guy.
