¡Hola, Nocturnos! Espero que estén todos bien y de humor para una lectura de fantasía oscura. En estos días me enganchó una novela que me mantuvo intrigado en todo momento. Aunque The Hollow Gods, de A. J. Vrana, es una novela juvenil, toca temas muy adultos. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia para reseñar a través de NetGalley!

Empezaré diciendo que esta novela combina bastante bien la literatura juvenil y la ficción gótica. Hubo una sensación de horror sobrenatural en todos los capítulos, la cual aumentaba cuanto más leía, y cuanto más leía, más me gustaba. Fue el círculo vicioso perfecto; ha pasado mucho tiempo desde experimenté algo así.

Miya es un personaje encantador, como Kai, pero ella es la estrella total de esta historia. Evolucionó exponencialmente de una chica insegura a (lo que estoy bastante seguro que es) una bruja que controla sus poderes, mientras que Kai se convierte en un... monstruo del tipo caótico bueno, si debo describirlo de alguna manera. No cambió tanto como esperaba, pero sus acciones y su forma de ser fueron fundamentales. 

A. J. Vrana crea una mitología que seduce tu mente y atrapa tus ojos. Seguí leyendo, desesperado por lo que le pasaría a esta chica, pero se convirtió en una guerrera totalmente intrépida, alguien que no se inmutó cuando se desató el infierno. Sin embargo, todavía estoy averiguando por qué no se asustó cuando Mason (personaje adorable también, el pobre hombre lo pasó mal, jeje) la encontró a ella y a Kai. 

Estoy realmente ansioso por ver qué sucede en el próximo libro. The Hollow Gods me sorprendió mucho, porque no me enamoré de este libro de inmediato y volví a empezar a leer varias veces. Una vez que me dejé llevar y disfruté del viaje, fue suave, fue oscuro, fue hermoso y fue embriagador en igual medida. ¡Una maravilla oscura, si me preguntan!

Hello there, Nighters! I hope you are all alright and in the mood for a dark fantasy reading. I’ve been hooked in a novel these days that kept me intrigued at all times. Although The Hollow Gods, by A. J. Vrana, it’s a Young Adult novel, it touches very adult topics. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy through NetGalley!

A perfect story for contemporary fantasy readers who love their narratives razor-sharp and their secrets dark and deadly. Black Hollow is a town with a dark secret. For centuries, residents have foretold the return of the Dreamwalker—an ominous figure from local folklore said to lure young women into the woods and possess them. Yet the boundary between fact and fable is blurred by a troubling statistic: occasionally, women do go missing. And after they return, they almost always end up dead. When Kai wakes up next to the lifeless body of a recently missing girl, his memory blank, he struggles to clear his already threadbare conscience. Miya, a floundering university student, experiences signs that she may be the Dreamwalker’s next victim. Can she trust Kai as their paths collide, or does he herald her demise?And after losing a young patient, crestfallen oncologist, Mason, embarks on a quest to debunk the town’s superstitions, only to find his sanity tested. I'll start by saying that this novel combines Young-Adult literature and Gothic fiction quite well. There was a sense of supernatural horror in all the chapters, which increased the more I read, and the more I read, the more I liked it. It was the perfect vicious cycle; it's been a long time since I experienced something like this.

Miya is a charming character, just like Kai, but she’s the total star of this story. She evolved exponentially from an insecure girl to (what I’m pretty sure is) a witch in control of her powers, while Kai become a… chaotic good kind of monster, if I must describe him in any way. He didn’t change as much as I expected him, but his actions and his way of being were fundamental nonetheless. 

A. J. Vrana create a mythology that seduces your mind and grips your eyes. I kept reading, frantically anxious about what would happen to this girl, but she turned to be a totally fearless warrior, someone who didn’t flinch when all hell broke loose. I’m still figuring out why she didn’t freak out when Mason (lovable character as well, poor man had a tough time, hehe) found her and Kai, though. 

I’m really eager to see what happens in the next book. The Hollow Gods surprised me a lot, because I didn’t fall in love with this book immediately and re started the reading several times. Once I let myself go and enjoy the ride, it was smooth, it was dark, it was beautiful and it was intoxicating in equal measure. A dark marvel, if you ask me!
