Buendía, Nocturnos. Espero que hayan tenido una mejor semana que yo. En el lado (excesivamente) negativo, he estado sin nada de internet, y por el positivo tenemos que he tenido mucho tiempo: para leer. Iré programando las reseñas en la medida de lo posible, pero si desaparezco DE NUEVO, pues… ¡En fin! *suspiro* Hoy quiero hablarles sobre Stoker's Wilde West, de Steven Hopstaken y Melissa Prusi. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme un ejemplar para reseñar!

Luego de leer el primer libro (Pronto en español), no me lo pensé dos veces antes de pedir esta secuela. La idea era atractiva, los autores me sorprendieron muchísimo y tenía mucha curiosidad sobre qué pasaría después de esa primera aventura. Aunque prefiero la primera, esta continuación fue también adictiva.

Hubo escenas que me parecían innecesarias y que alargaban la trama sin razón, porque los detalles y las conexiones con el hilo principal, o incluso los secundarios, eran muy pocos. Eso hizo que me costara avanzar varias veces en la novela porque no terminaba de entender hacia dónde iba todo, por más que el estilo de los autores me pareciera atractivo y los personajes fuesen llamativos.

Sin embargo, Steven Hopstaken y Melissa Prusi me mantuvieron atento igual que en el primer libro. Los personajes se desarrollaron muy bien, cada uno con una voz única, muy inspirada en la época donde se desarrolla la trama, y con ideas que me encantaron. No voy a dar spoilers, pero… ¡Florence Stoker se ganó mis respetos!

El final ligeramente abierto apunta a un tercer libro, ¡y parece que hay otro clásico de la literatura gótica involucrado! Stoker's Wilde West es una novela casi imposible de dejar de leer una vez que la comienzas, llena de sorpresas en el camino, giros inesperados y un elenco tan intrépido como diverso. Si esto se convierte en una saga, creo que vamos a disfrutar mucho con ella.

Thinking they have put their monster-hunting days behind them, Oscar Wilde and Bram Stoker return to their normal lives. But when their old ally Robert Roosevelt and his nephew Teddy find a new nest of vampires, they are once again pulled into the world of the supernatural, this time in the American West. A train robbery by a band of vampire gunslingers sets off a series of events that puts Bram on the run, Oscar leading a rescue party and our heroes being pursued by an unstoppable vampire bounty hunter who rides a dead, reanimated horse.

After reading the first book, I didn't think twice about ordering this sequel. The idea was attractive, the authors surprised me a lot and I was very curious about what would happen after that first adventure. Although I prefer the first one, this continuation was also addictive.

There were scenes that seemed unnecessary to me and that lengthened the plot without reason, because the details and the connections with the main thread, or even the secondary ones, were very few. This made it difficult for me to advance several times in the novel because I did not fully understand where everything was going, even though the authors' style seemed attractive to me and the characters were striking.

However, Steven Hopstaken and Melissa Prusi kept an eye on me just like in the first book. The characters developed very well, each with a unique voice, very inspired by the time when the plot unfolds, and with ideas that I loved. I'm not going to give spoilers, but... Florence Stoker earned my respect!

The slightly open ending points to a third book, and there seems to be another classic of Gothic literature involved! Stoker's Wilde West is an almost impossible novel to stop reading once you start it, full of surprises along the way, unexpected twists, and a cast as intrepid as it is diverse. If this becomes a saga, I think we are going to enjoy it a lot.
