Buen día, Noctunos. ¿Qué tal le ha ido? Hace mucho que no dejo salir mi vena otaku, y honestamente creo que la vez más reciente fue cuando les compartí las canciones de KPop que estaba escuchando en ese momento (antes de que pregunten, todavía me gustan y he encontrado más ^^), así que decidí hablarles de un manga que leí recién y me encantó: Cagaster Vol. 1, por Kachou Hasimoto. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme un ejemplar por NetGalley para reseñar!

Es el año 2125, y aparece una extraña plaga llamada "Cagaster". Una de cada mil personas está infectada por esta enfermedad, que convierte a los humanos en monstruosos insectos caníbales. Dos tercios de la humanidad están diezmados... 30 años después, el joven experto en exterminador de insectos y aventurero mercenario Kidou y su nueva amiga Ilie luchan por sobrevivir en este nuevo mundo brutal, mientras profundizan en los misterios de la plaga y sus causas. Kidou tiene la tarea de encontrar a la madre de Ilie, después de que su padre moribundo le haya confiado con ella. Mientras tanto, la batalla continúa enfurecida contra la población mutada de la Tierra, con el código posiblemente descifrado para finalmente terminar con la pesadilla.
La historia nos presenta una sociedad a la que le falta poco para colapsar luego de la aparición de u virus tétrico que te convierte en un insecto gigante. Es un primer volumen que sirve de introducción al mundo de Cagaster más que otra cosa, pero que te da una buena primera impresión de los personajes.
Kidou es el típico adolescente Shonen que parece tener más de 20 años, pero al vivir en un mundo casi apocalíptico tiene mucho más sentido que sea maduro y seco en cuanto a sus emociones. No es una piedra, pero tampoco es muy expresivo. Es un personaje que me llama mucho la atención por lo psicológicamente complejo que podría resultar. Una elección interesante para un protagonista, si me preguntan.
Este volumen se lee en nada y te mantiene súper atento en todo momento. Algunos han criticado el dibujo de Kachou Hasimoto, pero a mí me encantó. Va muy de la mano con el ritmo rápido de la historia, sus altibajos, y con lo que podemos esperar. Aunque no hay mucho desarrollo, el mundo parece estar muy bien construido y te deja con muchas ganas de más.
Mi único problema son los personajes LGBT estereotipados, fue lo único que realmente me molestó porque parecieran estar allí para intentar hacer inclusiva esta historia, cosa que no pasa. Habrá que esperar para ver cómo se desarrolla esto, pero fuera de ese detalle es una lectura que disfrutas muchísimo. Cagaster Vol. 1 es un inicio sólido, atrapante y con mucho potencial. Me gusta hacia dónde parece ir. ^^

The story presents us with a society that is close to collapse after the emergence of a gloomy virus that turns you into a giant insect. It's a first volume that serves as an introduction to the world of Cagaster more than anything else, but it gives you a good first impression of the characters.
Kidou is the typical Shonen teenager who seems to be in his 20s, but living in an almost apocalyptic world makes much more sense for him to be mature and dry about his emotions. He is not a stone, but he's not very expressive either. He's a character that strikes me a lot because of how psychologically complex he could be. An interesting choice for a protagonist, if you ask me.
This volume is read in no time and keeps you super attentive at all times. Some have criticized Kachou Hasimoto's drawing, but I loved it. It goes hand in hand with the fast pace of the story, its ups and downs, and what we can expect. Although there's not much development, the world seems to be very well built and leaves you wanting more.
My only problem are the stereotypical LGBT characters, it was the only thing that really bothered me because they seemed to be there to try to make this story inclusive, which does not happen. We will have to wait to see how this develops, but outside that detail it is a reading that you enjoy a lot. Cagaster Vol. 1 is a solid, engaging start with plenty of potential. I like where it seems to be going. ^^
