Buen día, Nocturnos. ^^ Espero que estén muy bien. Para variar, estoy corriendo con mi tesis, así que puede ser que no me vean por aquí tan seguido durante este mes, pero eso no significa que dejaré de escribir por aquí, o mucho menos que dejaré de lado Lluvia de Plata ni ninguno de mis metas para este año. Hoy en particular, quiero hablarles del tercer libro de Las Crónicas de Narnia: El Caballo y el Muchacho, de C. S. Lewis.

Nuestro protagonista, Shasta, es un muchacho que vive con un anciano en la extrema pobreza, en medio de un país desértico. Este chico lleva una vida dura, aunque ha sabido verle el lado positivo a todo. Sin embargo, cuando un hombre desea comprarlo y su padre adoptivo parece estar de acuerdo, Shasta huye con un caballo parlante que le habla de Narnia, el lugar en donde todos son libres, lo cual lo hará descubrir quién es en realidad.
Tengo que decir que también tuve severos problemas con este libro por lo racista que puede llegar a ser. Ya había leído que C. S. Lewis fue tildado de antisemita por su trabajo, pero no pensé que pudiera ser tan obvio y notorio en un libro para niños, lo cual es triste, porque El Caballo y el Muchacho es una historia muy bonita, errática a veces, pero bonita.
Al igual que sus predecesoras, esta novela está muy bien construida, y cuenta con un elenco atractivo. Su lenguaje sencillo hace que te la devores en un momento, a menos a que seas árabe, como yo, y te sientas atacado directamente por cómo tu cultura es la base para una sociedad retrógrada, fanática y subdesarrollada.
Haciendo la vista gorda, sí disfruté bastante leyendo el libro y me pareció muy ingenioso, aunque la verdad tras la historia e identidad de Shasta me pareció demasiado predecible. C. S. Lewis demostró nuevamente por qué Narnia ha sido tan aclamada, y particularmente encontré que Las Crónicas de Narnia: El Caballo y el Muchacho es una historia mucho más sencilla a comparación que las demás que componen la saga, enseñando que a veces el universo obra de maneras inusuales pero acertadas.

Today in particular, I want to tell you about the third book of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Horse and His Boy, by C. S. Lewis.

Our protagonist, Shasta, is a boy who lives with an old man in extreme poverty, in the middle of a desert country. This boy leads a hard life, although he has known how to see the positive side of everything. However, when a man wants to buy him and his adoptive father seems to agree, Shasta runs away with a talking horse who tells him about Narnia, the place where everyone is free, which will make him discover who he really is.
I have to say that I also had severe problems with this book because of how racist it can be. I had already read that C. S. Lewis was branded anti-Semitic for his work, but I didn't think it could be so obvious and noticeable in a children's book, which is sad, because The Horse and His Boy is a very nice story, erratic at times, but nice.
Like its predecessors, this novel is beautifully constructed, and features an attractive cast. Its simple language makes you devour it in a moment, unless you are an Arab, like me, and you feel directly attacked by how your culture the base for a retrograde, fanatic and underdeveloped society.
Turning a blind eye, I did enjoy reading the book quite a bit and found it very clever, although the truth behind Shasta's history and identity seemed too predictable. C. S. Lewis again demonstrated why Narnia has been so acclaimed, and I particularly found that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Horse and His Boy is a much simpler story compared to the others that make up the saga, teaching that sometimes the universe works on unusual yet successful ways.
