Narnia #2: El León, la Bruja y el Ropero / The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Good morning, nighters. How are you doing this week? For me it has improved a lot because of my throat. There were days when I couldn't even speak, nights when I didn't sleep because of coughing, until a man took pity on me at the market and gave me some allergy pills. Yes, there are still good Samaritans in the world.

Today I come to tell you about the second book of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C. S. Lewis. The author began with this story and was the first one to be published, but chronologically it is the second in terms of reading order.

  • Publication: 1950
  • Author: C. S. Lewis
  • Illustrator: Pauline Baynes
  • Book series: The Chronicles of Narnia # 2
  • Pages: 109
  • Genres: Children, Fantasy, Adventure.

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie escape the war to take refuge in the house of Professor Digory Kirke, one of the protagonists of the first book, now old. While playing hide and seek, Lucy finds a portal to Narnia, who suffers under the 100-year winter of a self-proclaimed tyrannical queen, the White Witch. When the four brothers finally accompany her, they discover that a prophecy says that they will overthrow the villain, in addition to predicting the return of Aslan, the true king.

I admit that I had problems with this story. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a novel with too strong Christian influences, with obvious parallels such as the betrayal of Edmun, the conflict between brothers, the scene on the stone table... It seems like a fantasy version of the Bible. However, it's an enjoyable story if you turn a blind eye.

Despite this, C. S. Lewis keeps the reader's attention with interesting scenes and descriptions that transport you to Narnia on the spot. No matter what you are doing or what you think at a certain time, this book absorbs you if you give it a chance.

The story that gave rise to Narnia is more than just interesting. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe touches on topics such as family, morals and the eternal struggle between good and evil, although in a simple way, perfect for children and to make the older fall in love again. What I really liked to discover was that there are few differences between the movie and the book.

However, as I said, you have to turn a blind eye several times because there is too much religion decorated in this book. It seems that C. S. Lewis was preaching the gospel, which took me several times out of reading.

What do you think about it? If you already read the book, did you see the parallels I mention? Or do you think it's just me?

¡Un saludo y un abrazo!
Greetings and hugs!
