Buenos días, gente, o debería decir buenas noches. ^^' Ya es casi la 1 de la madrugada y me quedé despierto leyendo una preciosura de cómic al que le había puesto el ojo algunos días atrás. Como suele suceder, das solo un vistazo para tener una primera impresión, y terminas leyendo sin parar. Me acaba de pasar con Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince, por James Tynion IV y Michael Dialynas. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme un ejemplar a través de NetGalley a cambio de una reseña honesta!

La sinopsis resume muy bien el tipo de historia que uno se encuentra. Tanto Wynd como Oakley son personajes adorables, tienen vidas sencillas, y cuando la vida real toca a su puerta es cuestión de tiempo para que ambos se rompan y deban aprender cómo sobrevivir por su cuenta. Aunque la trama es sencilla y está algo dulcificada, los temas duros que toca a lo largo de sus páginas son suficientemente realistas para darle poder a todo el libro.
James Tynion IV hizo un trabajo excelente en cuanto a la historia. Cada personaje tiene sus aspectos positivos y negativos, un perfil muy bien definido, y aunque Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince parece un cómic extenso a primera vista créanme que no se siente en ningún momento. El ritmo y el desarrollo están tan bien trabajados que no me di cuenta de que ya estaba por terminar de leer.
También me quito el sombrero ante Michael Dialynas. Su arte me encantó desde la primera página. Tiene un estilo limpio, suave, pero que se vuelve brusco y suficientemente gráfico en los momentos adecuados. La paleta de colores es preciosa, además de que creó un contraste muy interesante junto con la historia violenta y los aspectos más oscuros del mundo de Wynd.
Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince es una historia muy bonita, con dosis iguales de violencia, realidad, y esperanza. Es un cómic sobre la identidad, la autoestima, la aceptación, y la aventura de descubrir quién eres, una metáfora larga sobre salir del armario y liberarse. James Tynion IV y Michael Dialynas apuntaron demasiado alto y cumplieron las expectativas con facilidad en este cómic, y no puedo esperar para saber qué pasará con Wynd y su grupo, mucho menos luego de ese final agridulce.

As is often the case, you just glance around to get a first impression, and you end up reading non-stop. Just happened to me with Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince, by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

The synopsis very well sums up the kind of story one comes across. Both Wynd and Oakley are lovable characters, they have simple lives, and when real life knocks on their door it's a matter of time before they both break down and must learn how to survive on their own. Although the plot is straightforward and somewhat mellow, the tough themes it touches throughout its pages are realistic enough to empower the entire book.
James Tynion IV did an excellent job on the story. Each character has its positives and negatives, a very well-defined profile, and although Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince seems like a lengthy comic at first glance, believe me, it is not felt at any time. The rhythm and development are so well worked that I didn't realize I was about to finish reading.
My hat is off to Michael Dialynas, too. I loved his art from the first page. He has a clean, smooth style, but one that gets rough and graphic enough at the right times. The color palette is gorgeous, plus it created a very interesting contrast alongside the violent story and darker aspects of Wynd's world.
Wynd Book One: The Flight of the Prince is a very beautiful story, with equal doses of violence, reality, and hope. It's a comicbook about identity, self-esteem, acceptance, and the adventure of discovering who you are, a long-form metaphor about coming out and setting yourself free. James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas aimed too high and met expectations with ease in this comic, and I can't wait to find out what will happen to Wynd and his group, much less after that bittersweet ending.
