Buenos días, gente bonita. Espero que estén muy bien. En medio de la locura del Año Nuevo, estuve leyendo un poco, y quiero volver a la literatura de fantasía, no solo por medio de cómics sino también con los libros (no en vano hay varias novelas esperando en mi biblioteca, jeje), y hay un relato corto que me llamaba la atención desde hace tiempo. Se trata de No Entres al Bosque, de Natalia Hatt. Aunque obtuve este libro durante una promoción gratuita, realmente no cuesta nada.
Cuando su hermano desaparece en el bosque, Lizzy se ve obligada a romper su única regla: no adentrarse más allá de los treinta pasos permitidos. No conoce familia que no haya perdido un integrante por faltar a esa simple norma, incluyendo la suya. Con la noche a punto de llegar y la esperanza de encontrar a su hermano a salvo, se enfrentará al peligro al que ha temido desde niña y descubrirá los horrores que se esconden tras la advertencia.
Aunque bastante corto, es una historia muy entretenida. Evidentemente recuerda a los cuentos de hadas que leíamos en la infancia, pero tiene un toque maduro que imposible de ignorar. Está lejos de ser un libro que les leamos a los más pequeños, pero sí un deleite para los adultos que quieren algo que combine lo mejor de dos mundos.
Puedo decir poco sobre el desarrollo precisamente por la extensión, aunque sí muy puntuales. Me gustó que Natalia mantuviera un mismo ritmo durante toda la narración, sin perderse en detalles pero sí dando los suficientes para crear una atmósfera atractiva. Hubo alguna que otra frase extraña que me no pareció natural, pero nada muy serio o que me sacara de la lectura.
Otro aspecto fue el elenco, cada uno con sus propias características y personalidad. De nuevo, no hay tanto desarrollo precisamente por la extensión, así que siento que la historia se queda un poco corta en este aspecto, sin darles más facetas a los personajes o dejarlos entrar en escena sin restricciones. Sin embargo, es parte del encanto al estar inspirado en cuentos de hadas, así que el si esto cuenta como pro o contra depende del gusto de cada lector.
No Entres al Bosque, de Natalia Hatt, es un relato demasiado bonito que te hace recordar épocas más sencillas en donde sueños y pesadillas eran lo mismo. La historia homenajea de manera certera el género que la inspira aunque manteniendo una identidad propia y un tono propio de la literatura adulta. Los pocos elementos steampunk le dan un aspecto interesante, un toque más tétrico que cualquier otra cosa, y trabaja muy bien a su favor. Una lectura perfecta para quienes tienen poco tiempo pero muchas ganas de soñar con los ojos abiertos.

In the midst of the madness of the New Year, I was reading a little, and I want to return to fantasy literature, not only through comics but also with books (not in vain there are several novels waiting in my library, hehe), and there's a short story that has caught my attention for a long time. It's about No Entres al Bosque (Don't Enter the Forest) by Natalia Hatt. Although I got this book during a free promotion, it doesn't really cost anything.
When her brother disappears into the forest, Lizzy is forced to break her only rule: never go beyond the thirty steps allowed. She doesn't know of a family that hasn't lost a member for breaking that simple rule, including hers. With night approaching and the hope of finding her brother safe, she will face the danger she has feared since she was a child and discover the horrors behind the warning.
Although quite short, it's a very entertaining story. Obviously reminiscent of the fairy tales we read in childhood, but it has a mature touch that's impossible to ignore. It's far from being a book that we read to the little ones, but a delight for adults who want something that combines the best of both worlds.
I can say little about the development precisely because of the extension, although very specific. I liked that Natalia kept the same rhythm throughout the narration, without getting lost in details but giving enough to create an attractive atmosphere. There were some strange phrases that didn't seem natural to me, but nothing very serious or that would take me out of reading.
Another aspect was the cast, each with their own characteristics and personality. Again, there's not that much development precisely because of the length, so I feel like the story falls a little short in this regard, without giving more facets to the characters or letting them enter the scene without restrictions. However, it is part of the charm of being inspired by fairy tales, so whether this counts as a pro or con depends on the taste of each reader.
No Entres al Bosque, by Natalia Hatt, is a too beautiful story that makes you remember simpler times when dreams and nightmares were the same. The story accurately pays tribute to the genre that inspires it while maintaining its own identity and a tone typical of adult literature. The few steampunk elements give it an interesting look, a more gloomy touch than anything else, and it works very well to its advantage. A perfect read for those who have little time but want to dream with their eyes open.
