Reseña / Review: Demon Punisher

Buenos días, gente bonita. Espero que estén listos para este fin de semana, y que vengan con ganas de leer porque tengo un libro que les va a interesar bastante, más aún si les gustan las brujas y criaturas mágicas oscuras con mucha sangre: Demon Punisher, de Aubrey Law, el cuarto libro de su saga Revenge of the Witch. ¡Gracias a la autora por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

El castigo viene en camino.

Annis comienza su peligrosa búsqueda para finalmente destruir a su malvada madre Amelia y castigar a cualquier criatura de la oscuridad que se atreva a detenerla.

Una nueva amiga peluda aceptará ayudar a Annis. E innumerables monstruos intentarán matarlas a ambas.

¿La cambiaformas-oso Skye también se unirá a Annis como aliada, o se interpondrá en su camino como enemiga?

Necesitaba tomarme un descanso de esta saga luego del tercer libro, pero ahora que la retomé estoy ansioso por seguirla. Aunque fue una lectura ligeramente rápida, pasaron muchas cosas que alteraron la vida de Annis, muchos cambios algunos muy drásticos, y que podrían significar cualquier cosa para ella.

El desarrollo de los personajes es más rápido a comparación de los libros anteriores, Annis sigue siendo tan encantadora como siempre, pero parece haberse vuelto más temeraria. Sus emociones están a flor de piel, sus acciones ya están más planificadas, y la noto más humana que antes. El tiempo se me pasó volando leyendo esta novela, no sentí que se hiciera lenta, larga, mucho menos pesada en ningún momento, sino que más bien quería seguir leyendo.

Ahora, ¿qué hay en el lado negativo? Algunas escenas que no me terminaron de convencer, como que Annis ignore una voz en su cabeza sin explicar por qué, la importancia de cierta vampira sacada de la literatura clásica, o el haber usado el Deus ex machina. Son las tres que más me molestaron en su momento, porque aunque fueron pequeñeces, la manera en que se desarrollaron no fue del todo convincent. Sentí que podrían haberse dado de otra manera. Uno también podría que la batalla al final del libro podría haber sido más larga, pero a mí me pareció que quedó bastante bien a pesar de lo corta, y pone al lector a pensar con respecto a la naturaleza de Annis, puede que incluso su futuro.

Fuera de eso, disfruté muchísimo al lado de Black Annis, Skye, y la nueva compañera que nos menciona la sinopsis. Es una historia rápida, llena de acción y mucha magia, tal y como me gustan, con giros que te toman por sorpresa y un humor que te saca más de una sonrisa en medio del desastre en que se convierte la vida de esta bruja. Aubrey Law lo vuelve a hacer con Demon Punisher, dando al público una novela fácil de disfrutar y que te deja con ganas de más.

Punishment is coming

Annis begins her dangerous quest to finally destroy her evil mother Amelia and punish any creatures of darkness that dare try to stop her.

A new furry friend will agree to help Annis. And countless monsters will try to kill them both.

Will the werebear Skye also join Annis as an ally, or stand in her way as an enemy?

I needed to take a break from this series after the third book, but now that I'm back I can't wait to continue it. Although it was a slightly quick read, there was a lot that changed Annis's life, a lot of changes, some very drastic, and it could mean anything to her.

Character development is faster compared to the previous books, Annis is still as charming as ever, but she seems to have become more reckless. Her emotions are on the surface, her actions are already more planned, and she feels more human than she was before. Time flew by reading this novel, I didn't feel that it became slow, long, much less heavy at any time, but rather I wanted to continue reading.

Now what's on the downside? Some scenes that didn't quite convince me, like Annis ignoring a voice in her head without explaining why, the importance of a certain vampire taken from classic literature, or having used the Deus ex machina. They are the three that bothered me the most at the time, because although they were small things, the way they developed wasn't entirely convincing. I felt that they could have been done in another way. One could also say that the battle at the end of the book could have been longer, but I thought it turned out quite well despite its shortness, and makes the reader think about the nature of Annis, maybe even her future.

Outside of that, I really enjoyed being with Black Annis, Skye, and the new partner mentioned in the synopsis. It's a fast story, full of action and a lot of magic, just the way I like it, with twists that take you by surprise and a humor that makes you smile more than once in the midst of the disaster that this witch's life becomes. Aubrey Law does it again with Demon Punisher, giving audiences a novel that's easy to enjoy and leaves you wanting more.
