Grim: Fantasía con la Muerte / Fantasy with Death

Buen día, gente bonita. Espero que estén muy bien. Hoy quiero compartirles un primer vistazo a un cómic que se ve lindo lindo y que ya quiero leer. Es una historia de fantasía, como no podía faltar en este blog, pero que se enfoca en un elemento que me encanta: la muerte: Se trata de Grim, con un guión de Stephanie Phillips (Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman), arte de Flaviano (New Mutants), colores de Rico Renzi (Spider-Gwen), y lettering de Tom Napolitano (The Joker), publicado por BOOM! Studios. Vamos con los detalles.

Good morning, beautiful people. I hope you all are okay. Today I want to share with you a first look at a comic that looks pretty cool and that I already want to read. It's a fantasy story, as this blog could not miss, but it focuses on an element that I love: death: It's called Grim, with a script by Stephanie Phillips (Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman), art by Flaviano (New Mutants ), colors by Rico Renzi (Spider-Gwen), and lettering by Tom Napolitano (The Joker), published by BOOM! Studios. Let's go with the details.

Jessica Harrow está muerta. ¡Pero su viaje no ha hecho más que empezar! Descubre el mundo del más allá, donde Jessica ha sido reclutada como Segadora, encargada de transportar innumerables almas a su destino final. Pero a diferencia del resto de los segadores, ella no recuerda qué la mató y la puso en esta situación. Para desentrañar el misterio de su propia muerte, tendrá que resolver uno aún más grande: ¿dónde está la PARCA real?

Stephanie Phillips es una escritora estadounidense conocida por cómics y novelas gráficas como Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman: Evolution y The Butcher of Paris. Sus historias y cómics han aparecido en DC, AfterShock, Oni Press, Heavy Metal, Dark Horse, Top Cow/Image y más. Además de los cómics, Stephanie también tiene un doctorado en retórica y composición.

Flaviano es un artista que trabaja en cómics y animación. Al vivir en Roma, Flaviano se ha encargado del guión gráfico y el diseño de personajes para estudios como Filmax, Motionworks, Xilam, Rainbow. Sus cómics han sido publicados por Disney, Dargaud, BOOM! Studios, Marvel, DC Comics y Sergio Bonelli Editore.

“Me encanta dibujar nuevos personajes y compartir esa emoción de la creación con autores brillantes como Stephanie. Hizo un trabajo increíble sentando las bases para un personaje que no puedes evitar amar”, dijo Flaviano. “Así que no sorprende que no pueda dejar de dibujar a Jess y a todos los demás segadores de esta historia misteriosa, divertida, triste y extraña sobre la búsqueda de tu verdadero yo y tu lugar en el mundo”.

Jessica Harrow is dead. But her journey has only just begun!  Discover the world of the afterlife, where Jessica has been recruited as a Reaper, tasked with ferrying countless souls to their final destination. But unlike the rest of the Reapers, she has no memory of what killed her and put her into this predicament. In order to unravel the mystery of her own demise, she'll have to solve an even bigger one – where is the actual GRIM REAPER?

Stephanie Phillips is an American writer known for comics and graphic novels such as Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman: Evolution, and The Butcher of Paris. Her stories and comics have appeared from DC, AfterShock, Oni Press, Heavy Metal, Dark Horse, Top Cow/Image, and more. Outside of comics, Stephanie also holds a PhD in rhetoric and composition. 

"GRIM is dark and brooding and fixated on death... and also one of the most fun series I've ever written! With demons, reapers, departed souls, and Flaviano's artwork, you'll be dying to read more!" said Phillips.

Flaviano is an artist working in comics and animation. Living in Rome, Flaviano has handled storyboarding and character design for studios such as Filmax, Motionworks, Xilam, Rainbow. His comics have been published by Disney, Dargaud, BOOM! Studios, Marvel, DC Comics and Sergio Bonelli Editore.

“I love to draw new characters and share that excitement of creation with brilliant authors like Stephanie. She did an amazing job setting the groundwork for a character that you can't help but love,” said Flaviano. “So it’s no surprise that I can't stop drawing Jess and all the other reapers from this mysterious, funny, sad, weird story about the search for your true self and place in the world.”

Si me preguntan, la premisa es muy interesante, bastante atractiva, el arte es precioso, y desde ya puedo decir que va a haber una dosis de humor negro; faltaría ver qué tanta, pero me inclino por creer que tendrá mucha. Lejos de predecir si será una serie larga o no, sí me atrevería a decir que podría lidiar con temas espirituales, junto con preguntas filosóficas. Que vaya todo envuelto con una estética de fantasía oscura lo haría mucho mejor, así que solo resta esperar para conocer más detalles. El primer número sale en mayo de este año, así que tampoco es una espera larga.

If you ask me, the premise is very interesting, quite attractive, the art is beautiful, and I can already say that there is going to be a dose of dark humor; it remains to be seen how much, but I'm inclined to believe that it will have a lot. Far from predicting if it will be a long series or not, I would dare to say that it could deal with spiritual issues, along with philosophical questions. Going all wrapped up in a dark fantasy aesthetic would make it much better, so we just have to wait for more details. The first issue comes out in May this year, so it's not a long wait either.
