Manga: Welcome Back, Aureole

Hace unos días leí un manga que me dejó con la boca abierta, una historia de amistad, amor, traumas, y realismo (ya saben que me encantan estas cosas). Es de esas historias que te encantan desde el primer momento y se quedan contigo: Welcome Back, Aureole, por Takatsu. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

El extrovertido y popular Kazu y el tímido y serio Moto crecieron juntos como mejores amigos de la infancia. Pero algo cambia durante la secundaria, y el ritmo fácil y familiar de su amistad comienza a romperse cuando Kazu comienza a albergar sentimientos más profundos por su olvidado amigo. Cuando la problemática vida hogareña de Kazu y las incursiones románticas en ciernes de Moto crean un choque de malentendidos, secretos y sentimientos heridos, ¿podrá su relación sobrevivir a estos crecientes dolores?

Welcome Back, Aureole es una exploración agridulce pero tierna de la maduración del amor joven. Dos chicos que crecen uno al lado del otro... sus estrellas se separan y se juntan de nuevo.

La historia de Kazu y Moto suena al típico drama de dos amigos de la infancia pero les prometo que no es el caso. Es una trama llena de sentimientos complejos, situaciones difíciles que los sacan de sus zonas de comodidad. Hay escenas muy fuertes que sorprenden a cualquier lector, y temas importantes que hay que reflejar más a menudo. No quiero decir cuáles, pero les prometo que es algo que no se esperarían.

Sin embargo, se trata de una historia muy bonita, sana, llena de remordimientos, problemas, sanación, y el poder de la amistad por encima de todas las cosas. Kazu y Moto son personajes tan similares como diferentes, cada uno con sus propias cargas, sus propias preocupaciones, lo que le da a Welcome Back, Aureole un toque muy humano que siempre viene bien.

Por la parte no tan espectacular están los saltos temporales de una época a la otra. Me tomó un poco acostumbrarme a ellos como un recurso. Me sacaron de la narración en un par de oportunidades porque son cortes demasiado abruptos para una historia que se vuelve súper atmosférica en poco tiempo. Sin embargo, luego de esas primeras veces, es más fácil seguir leyendo. Una pequeña cosa es que no entendí el título, que esperaba fuese explicado, pero siento que me estoy perdiendo de algo.

Welcome Back, Aureole es perfecta si les gustan las historias con drama, romance, amistad, y una dosis de realidad. El arte es precioso, el guión es efectivo, los temas tienen el respeto que merecen, además de que ofrece un mensaje de esperanza sanador. Una historia positiva ideal para estos tiempos en donde todo parece andar mal.

Welcome Back, Aureole is a bittersweet yet tender exploration of the maturation of young love. Two boys growing up side by side... their stars drift apart and come together again.

The story of Kazu and Moto sounds like the typical drama of two childhood friends but I promise you that it is not the case. It's a plot full of complex feelings, difficult situations that take them out of their comfort zones. There are very strong scenes that surprise any reader, and important themes that must be reflected more often. I don't want to say which ones, but I promise you it's something you wouldn't expect.

However, it's a very beautiful, wholesome story, full of regrets, problems, healing, and the power of friendship above all things. Kazu and Moto are characters as similar as they are different, each with their own burdens, their own worries, which gives Welcome Back, Aureole a very human touch that always comes in handy.

For the not so spectacular part are the time jumps from one era to another. It took me a bit to get used to them as a resource. They took me out of the narrative a couple of times because they are too abrupt cuts for a story that becomes super atmospheric in a short time. However, after those first few times, it's easier to keep reading. One small thing is that I didn't understand the title, which I expected to be explained, but I feel I'm missing something.

Welcome Back, Aureole is perfect if you like stories with drama, romance, friendship, and a dose of reality. The art is beautiful, the script is effective, the themes get the respect they deserve, plus it offers a healing message of hope. A positive story ideal for these times where everything seems to be going wrong.
