Narnia #7: La Última Batalla / The Last Battle

Hola, Nocturnos.

Hello, Nighters. I hope things are going great wherever you are. Yes, I'm still reading. Yes, I am still looking for what to do, and yes, I'm still talking about Narnia, and this time to definitively close this saga, because today I come to share my opinion on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle, by C. S. Lewis.

  • Publication: 1956
  • Author: C. S. Lewis
  • Illustrator: Pauline Baynes
  • Book series: The Chronicles of Narnia #7
  • Pages: 106 pages
  • Genres: Children, Fantasy, Adventure.

During what will be the last days of Narnia, a lie spreads with speed and awakens fear among all Narnians, sowing horror and despair in all. For the first time, it seems that there's no one who can save this land from danger, although that doesn't prevent the friends of Narnia from returning once more to help King Tirian before disaster covers everything.

For the first time in the whole saga, we meet Narnian protagonists, beings who were born, grew up and have been in Narnia all their lives, so we have a slightly different vision of how things happen. Of course, C. S. Lewis had already shown us this point of view from other characters, but in The Last Battle we find the worst of the worst. Not surprisingly, we are facing the apocalypse.

Although it could have been more macabre than The Silver Chair, the tone of this book is very soft, and treats everything with great tact, precisely because of the themes it includes. The end of time, the apocalypse, the Last Judgment, even violent death appear at certain points in the plot, but in a way that is easy for children to understand.

Although I find it hard to believe that Narnia could have that end after everything that had happened, it seems to me that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle, by C. S. Lewis, gives a good end to the series. It's a story that surprised me and pleased me many times, and that's enough for me, although I must say that I expected something a little more... dramatic. I insist, everything was very smooth, especially the end, although the last paragraphs were sublime.

¡Un saludo y un abrazo!
Greetings and hugs!
