Anoche me aventuré con un género manga por primera vez. Yuri. Para los desentendidos, es el romance entre dos chicas o dos mujeres. No estaba seguro de por cuál empezar, pero anoche me decidí por un romance juvenil con una buena dosis de drama, ¡y no me arrepiento de nada! Es Sirius: Twin Stars, por Ana C. Sánchez. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

El brillante futuro de Dani como tenista de élite se detiene repentinamente cuando, durante un partido, sufre un infarto. Su condición recién descubierta afecta no solo su salud, sino también su relación con su madre, así como su carrera.

Queriendo alejarse de todo, deja atrás la gran ciudad, y todos sus problemas⁠, y se va con su primo a un pueblito costero. Allí conoce a Blanca, una chica llena de vida y enamorada de la astronomía. Blanca le recuerda a Dani que la vida puede ser hermosa y que ella puede volver a brillar como las estrellas.

Es una historia bastante corte, ¡pero igual de efectiva! Es fácil identificarse con Dani, con sus inseguridades, con sus problemas, su visión del futuro, una visión que todos hemos tenido en algún momento. Blanca, por otro lado, aparece como esa amistad que le da luz a todo en medio del desastre. Ambas tienen un comienzo bastante accidentado que me dejó sin palabras, pero el cambio es increíble.

El estilo de Ana es precioso, delicado, limpio, tan suave o brusco dependiendo de lo que necesite. ¡Y esas primeras páginas a color fueron perfectas! El guión tampoco se queda atrás, porque no sentí que la historia se viera afectada por el espacio. La sentí muy completa en muchos sentidos, adorable y dulce, pero también con mucho realismo.

Mi única crítica serían algunos de los diálogos, incluso algunos pensamientos como parte de la narración, que se no sentían naturales. Hubo escenas en que me sacaron de la lectura porque no parecía algo que diría una adolescente. No fueron muchos, pero sí algunos que me parecieron raros por el contexto de la historia. Además, el final perdió un poco de fuerza por hacer predecible lo que podría haber sido una buena sorpresa.

En general, Sirius: Twin Stars, es un manga que me encantó. Blanca y Dani son personajes preciosos, su historia me dejó soñando despierto, me sacó más de una sonrisa, y espero que le den una oportunidad. Ana C. Sánchez me dejó con ganas de más, pero no de esta historia; el final es suficientemente sólido. ¡Quiero más historias por esta mujer!

Last night I ventured into a manga genre for the first time. Yuri. For the uninformed, it's the romance between two girls or two women. I wasn't sure where to start, but last night I decided on a teen romance with a good dose of drama, and I don't regret a thing! It's Sirius: Twin Stars, by Ana C. Sánchez. Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

Dani's bright future as an elite tennis player comes to a sudden stop when, during a match, she has a heart attack. Her newly discovered condition affects not only her health, but also her relationship with her mother, as well as her career.

Wanting to get away from everything, she leaves behind the big city ⁠— and all her problems ⁠—  and goes with her cousin to a little coastal village. There she meets Blanca, a girl full of life and in love with astronomy. Blanca reminds Dani that life can be beautiful, and that she can shine again like stars do.

It's a pretty short story, but just as effective! It's easy to identify with Dani, with her insecurities, with her problems, her vision of the future, a vision that we have all had at some point. Blanca, on the other hand, appears as that friendship that gives light to everything in the midst of disaster. They both got off to a pretty bumpy start that left me speechless, but the change is incredible.

Ana's style is beautiful, delicate, clean, as smooth or rough depending on what she needs. And those first color pages were perfect! The script is also not far behind, because I didn't feel that the story was affected by space. It felt very complete in many ways, adorable and sweet, but also very realistic.

My only criticism would be some of the dialogue, even some thoughts as part of the narration, which felt unnatural. There were scenes where I was pulled out of the reading because it didn't sound like something a teenage girl would say. There weren't many, but there were some that seemed strange to me due to the context of the story. Also, the ending lost a bit of punch for making predictable what could have been a good surprise.

In general, Sirius: Twin Stars is a manga that I loved. Blanca and Dani are beautiful characters, their story left me daydreaming, made me smile more than once, and I hope you give it a chance. Ana C. Sánchez left me wanting more, but not this story; the ending is solid enough. I want more stories by this woman!
