Luego de leer el anterior, tuve que seguir leyendo. Quería más, quería saber más, descubrir más, y me doy por muy bien servido. Este equipo sabe lo que está haciendo, disfrutan del proceso, y todo esto se nota en el resultado final. El origen de Erica Slaughter, cazadora de monstruos, se revela en este volumen de la serie de terror nominada al Premio Eisner.Erica Slaughter fue al infierno y regresó en Archer's Peak, pero eso puede no ser nada comparado con los eventos que la forjaron en la Casa de Slaughter. ¿Qué eventos llevaron a Erica a la Casa de Slaughter? ¿Y qué tuvo que hacer ella para ingresar en la Orden de San Jorge?
Tenía mucha curiosidad sobre los orígenes de Erica, saber cómo terminó siendo la cazadora tan intrépida que conocí en los volúmenes anteriores, y puedo decir que muchas de las preguntas que tenía tuvieron respuesta. Quizás no tantas como hubiese querido por la extensión (sí, sigo con ganas de más), pero me doy por bien servido.
El guión aprovecha el espacio muy bien, tiene suficientes giros en la trama como para mantenerte entretenido, atrapado en el mundo de la joven Erica. El arte juega con la percepción también, mostrando sobras y luces a conveniencia, creando una atmósfera opresiva durante la mayor parte de la lectura, dándole más peso a las acciones, al desarrollo, hasta que te sumerges de lleno. Excelente de inicio a fin.
Algo que me parece curioso, y a veces incluso juega en contra del volumen, es que Erica se toma muchas cosas a la ligera. No vi el trauma, no vi el desespero, al menos no en la medida en que esperaba. Erica se veía demasiado calmada casi todo el tiempo a pesar de haber pasado por experiencias tan traumáticas, cosa que me sacó varias veces de la lectura.
A pesar de ello, Something is Killing the Children Vol. 4 es una lectura intensa que responde varias de las preguntas sobre este universo, nos presenta varios personajes, e introduce una faceta diferente de Erica, una que es refrescante y, aunque podría haber quedado mejor, le da más humanidad como personaje. No pretendo cansarme de esta serie en el futuro cercano, y espero que tampoco ninguno de los lectores.

This team knows what they're doing, they enjoy the process, and all of this shows in the final result. The origin of Erica Slaughter, monster hunter, is revealed in this volume of the Eisner Award-nominated horror series.Erica Slaughter went to hell and back in Archer’s Peak, but that may be nothing compared to the events that forged her at the House of Slaughter. What events brought Erica to the House of Slaughter? And what did she have to do to join the Order of St. George?
I was very curious about Erica's origins, how she ended up being the fearless hunter I met in the previous volumes, and I can say that many of the questions I had were answered. Perhaps not as many as I would have liked for the extension (yes, I still want more), but I'm well served.
The script makes good use of space, it has enough plot twists to keep you entertained, caught up in the world of young Erica. The art plays with perception too, showing shadows and lights at will, creating an oppressive atmosphere for most of the reading, giving more weight to the actions, to the development, until you fully immerse yourself. Excellent from start to finish.
Something that I find curious, and sometimes even plays against the volume, is that Erica takes many things lightly. I didn't see the trauma, I didn't see the despair, at least not to the extent that I expected. Erica seemed too calm most of the time despite having been through such traumatic experiences, which took me out of reading several times.
Despite this, Something is Killing the Children Vol. 4 is an intense reading that answers several of the questions about this universe, introduces us to several characters, and introduces a different side of Erica, one that is refreshing and, although it could have been better, gives her more humanity as a character. I don't plan on getting tired of this series in the near future, and I hope that neither any of the readers.
