Desde hace tiempo quería leer algo diferente, que se saliera de lo que suelo escoger, pero que combinara de alguna manera. Diferente, pero similar. Cuando vi una novela de tritones agéneros, con romance de fantasía y drama, no lo pensé dos veces. Crest no está emocionade de estar en su viaje: la estadía de un mes en la tierra por la que todos los tritones adolescentes deben pasar. Las reglas son simples: ayuda a un humano dentro de un ciclo lunar y regresa a Pacifica para convertirte en un Anciano, o fracasa y permanece atrapado en la tierra para siempre. Crest está ansiose por terminar su viaje: después de todo, los humanos son repugnantes. Han contaminado tanto el planeta que hay una isla flotante de basura que es literalmente del tamaño de un país.

En Los Ángeles, con un cuerpo humano y un nuevo nombre, Crest conoce a Sean, un salvavidas humano cuyo novio lo ha dejado recientemente. Crest acepta ayudar a Sean a poner celoso a su ex y recuperarlo. Pero a medida que les dos pasan más tiempo juntos y la perspectiva de Crest sobre los humanos comienza a cambiar, pronto se verán divididos entre dos mundos. Y las citas falsas pueden conducir a sentimientos reales...

No había leído a Jason June antes, pero esta novela me dejó tan encantado que quiero más, muchos libros más. Es una historia tan preciosa y llena de humar de la que es casi imposible despegarse. Sean y Crest/Ross son personajes con los que no puedes evitar simpatizar. Llega un momento en que todo se siente tan real que debes tomarte un minuto para procesarlo todo.

Los elementos de fantasía no están tan presentes como esperaba al inicio, pero sí hay suficiente contenido para satisfacer a cualquier lector. Además, los temas sociales, las opiniones tan marcadas que tiene Crest/Ross, y luego las que forma Sean a raíz de todo lo que pasa, son dolorosamente reales. Sonreí y me reí muchas veces, pero llegó un punto en que el corazón se me encogió.

Si diría que el principio pudo haber sido mejor. Muchos personajes se veían tan planos que no me cautivaron sino hasta después. Sentí que era un poco lento en algunas escenas, incluso, pero la trama evolucionó de una manera que nunca me imaginé, poniendo a todo el elenco en posiciones complicadas, situaciones de las que pensé que no saldrían.

Jason June creó una historia que encantará a cualquiera que la lea. Out of the Blue es el libro perfecto para sonreír y soñar al mismo tiempo, pero sin olvidar la vida real. Llena de fantasía y su propio tipo de magia, esta novela toca la fibra sensible sin que te des cuenta. Ese último cuarto de lectura fue excelente en muchos sentidos, tantos giros de trama, tanto drama, tanto amor... El cierre perfecto para un cuento de hadas moderno.

For a long time I wanted to read something different, that would go beyond what I usually choose, but that would match in some way. Different, but similar. When I saw a novel of agender merfolk, with fantasy romance and drama, I didn't think twice. Crest is not excited to be on their Journey: the monthlong sojourn on land all teen merfolk must undergo. The rules are simple: Help a human within one moon cycle and return to Pacifica to become an Elder--or fail and remain stuck on land forever. Crest is eager to get their Journey over and done with: after all, humans are disgusting. They've pollluted the planet so much that there's a floating island of trash that's literally the size of a country.

In Los Angeles with a human body and a new name, Crest meets Sean, a human lifeguard whose boyfriend has recently dumped him. Crest agrees to help Sean make his ex jealous and win him back. But as the two spend more time together and Crest's pespective on humans begins to change, they'll soon be torn between two worlds. And fake dating just might lead to real feelings...

This sophomore novel from Jason June dives into the many definitions of the word home and shows how love can help us find the truest versions of ourselves.

I hadn't read Jason June before, but I was so amazed by this novel that I want more, many more books. It's a story so beautiful and full of humor that it's almost impossible to detach yourself. Sean and Crest/Ross are characters you can't help but sympathize with. There comes a time when everything feels so real that you need to take a minute to process it all.

The fantasy elements are not as present as I expected at first, but there's enough content to satisfy any reader. Also, the social issues, the strong opinions that Crest/Ross has, and then Sean's as a result of everything that happens, are painfully real. I smiled and laughed many times, but there came a point where my heart sank.

I would say that the beginning could have been better. Many characters looked so flat that they didn't captivate me until later. I felt that it was a little slow in some scenes, even, but the plot evolved in a way that I never imagined, putting the entire cast in complicated positions, situations that I thought they would not come out of.

Jason June created a story that will delight anyone who reads it. Out of the Blue is the perfect book to smile and dream at the same time, but without forgetting real life. Full of fantasy and its own brand of magic, this novel strikes a chord without you realizing it. That last quarter of reading was excellent in many ways, so many plot twists, so much drama, so much love... The perfect ending for a modern fairy tale.
