¡Buenos días, nocturnos! Espero que estén bien. Una de las bandas que escuché en el bachillerato lanzó un nuevo disco y tengo tantos años escucharlos que la nostalgia me ganó. Decidí volver a mis 17 años  ver cómo han evolucionado. We Are Chaos, de Marilyn Manson, fue una buena sorpresa y que no dejo de escuchar.

Manson explicó que el disco cambia de manera drástica luego de Half-Way & One Step Forward, el quinto tema, así que era de esperarse, solo que no imaginé qué tan notoria sería la diferencia. Mientras que las primeras canciones son ligeras, como la que titula este disco, más experimentales e incluso con un toque de música pop, especialmente Paint You with My Love, la segunda parte es más oscura y pesada.

El contraste es mucho más notorio por el sexto tema, Infinite Darkness, uno de mis favoritos. En vez de hablar sobre relaciones, Manson se vuelve más filosófico y social, retomando su estilo usual de música y criticando a la sociedad con sus letras. Temas como Solve Coagula, que combina el esoterismo con la autenticidad, o Broken Needle, demuestran que el cantante es un fiel defensor de la individualidad.

Lo único que me tiene un poco inconforme es que las letras son bastante repetitivas. Temas como la religión, el sacrilegio, la sociedad del conformismo, e incluso la muerte desde varios puntos de vista se quedan cortos por las repeticiones en cada canción. Una parte de mí se desconectó cuando esto se hizo evidente, que habría quedado bien en una o dos pistas, puede que hasta tres.

Es indudable que We Are Chaos es un disco sumamente oscuro y que recupera la gloria de Marilyn Manson. La banda juega con los géneros en muchos sentidos y explora nuevos terrenos desconocidos, cosa que siempre voy a aplaudir. Sin embargo, es mucho más suave de lo que uno podría esperar, junto con letras repetitivas que le hacen perder fuerza. La única excepción podría ser Broken Needle, sin embargo.

Good morning, Nighters! I hope you are well. One of the bands I listened to in high school released a new album and I haven't listened to them for so many years that nostalgia got the better of me. I decided to go back to my 17 to see how they have evolved. We Are Chaos, by Marilyn Manson, was a good surprise and one that I keep listening to.

Manson explained that the album changes drastically after Half-Way & One Step Forward, the fifth track, so it was to be expected, I just didn't imagine how noticeable the difference would be. While the first songs are light, like the one that titled this album, more experimental and even with a touch of pop music, especially Paint You with My Love, the second part is darker and heavier.

The contrast is much more noticeable because of the sixth track, Infinite Darkness, one of my favorites. Instead of talking about relationships, Manson has become more philosophical and social, returning to his usual style of music and criticizing society with his lyrics. Tracks like Solve Coagula, which combines esotericism with authenticity, or Broken Needle, show that the singer is a faithful defender of individuality.

The only thing that makes me a little unhappy is that the lyrics are quite repetitive. Topics such as religion, sacrilege, the conformist society, and even death from various points of view fall short because of the repetitions in each song. A part of me disconnected when this became apparent, which would have looked good on one or two tracks, maybe even three.

There is no doubt that We Are Chaos is an extremely dark album that recovers Marilyn Manson's glory. The band plays with the genres in many ways and explores new unknown terrains, which I will always applaud. However, it is much calmer than one might expect, along with repetitive lyrics that make it lose power. The only exception could be Broken Needle, though.
