En mi caso fue La Caída de la Casa de Usher, y viajar a los mundo macabros y sombríos de este escritor fue una distracción perfecta durante la pandemia. No me canso de leerlo, de redescubrir sus historias, sus personajes torturados, y cada una de sus ideas.

La introducción de Daniel Stashower me pareció fascinante Te explica en muchos aspectos lo que que fue la vida de Edgar Allan Poe, cómo creció y, quizás, incluso por qué terminó con una imaginación tan vívida y mórbida. Muchas veces se ha dicho que tuvo una vida muy similar a sus historias, cosa que Stashower hace evidente al explicar de dónde surgieron las ideas de algunas historias.

Me hubiese gustado que tuviera más material adicional, para que la edición en sí se destacara más. Como lectura está muy bien, te ofrece una mirada de lo que fue vivir en la piel de Poe y cómo era el día a día en sus tiempos, pero no puedo evitar comparar este libro con The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales, editado por la misma editorial. Si los pongo ambos lado a lado, Poe queda en desventaja.

No obstante, la grandeza de este autor gótico es innegable. Siempre es un placer leerlo, volver a él, redescubrir sus monstruos, criaturas fantásticas, la magia y el horror que pueblan sus historias. The Complete Tales & Poems of Edgar Allan Poe es una gran adición a la biblioteca de cualquiera. Viene también con una línea de tiempo y lecturas recomendadas, así que espero que tengan muchas ganas de leer. ^^

I come with a book that you are going to love, and why not if it is an anthology of one of my favorite authors? The Complete Tales & Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, with an introduction by Daniel Stashower and editing by Rock Point, is a precious read. His often macabre and dark works, which span the years from 1827 to his death in 1849, include "The Raven," "The Black Cat," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "Annabelle Lee."

For Poe fans worldwide, this stunning gift edition features a gorgeous deckled edge, ribbon marker, and foil and deboss details on a vibrantly colored case. This elegant collector's edition includes over 70 of Poe's short stories, more than 40 melodious poems, and his only full-length novel, The Narrative of A. Gordon Pym. In addition, it also includes a compelling introduction by notable historian and biographer Daniel Stashower.

Who doesn't love Poe? We've all read something of him at some point, and at least one of his texts marks us. In my case it was The Fall of the House of Usher, and traveling to the ghoulish and gloomy worlds of this writer was a perfect distraction during the pandemic. I never tire of reading him, of rediscovering his stories, his tortured characters, and each of his ideas.

I found Daniel Stashower's introduction fascinating. It explains to you in many ways what Edgar Allan Poe's life was like, how he grew up, and perhaps even why he ended up with such a vivid and morbid imagination. Many times it has been said that he had a life very similar to his stories, which Stashower makes evident when explaining where the ideas of some stories came from.

I wish it had more additional material, so that the edition itself stood out more. As a reading it is very good, it offers you a look at what it was like to live in Poe's skin and what day-to-day life was like in his times, but I can't help but compare this book with The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales, edited by the same publisher. If I put them both side by side, Poe's at a disadvantage.

However, the greatness of this Gothic author is undeniable. It's always a pleasure to read him, to return to him, to rediscover his monsters, fantastic creatures, the magic and horror that populate his stories. The Complete Tales & Poems of Edgar Allan Poe is a great addition to anyone's library. It also comes with a timeline and recommended readings, so I hope you are looking forward to reading. ^^
