Buenos días, gente bonita. Espero que tuvieran un buen fin de semana. Yo empecé un cómic que me sorprendió bastante y que se sale de lo que suelo leer. Aunque estaba al tanto de las historias de detective oculto, es primera vez que leo algo que entra en el género. Se trata de Trese Vol. 1: Murder on Balete Drive, por Budjette Tan y Kajo Baldisimo. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!
¡Un cómic filipino galardonado y próximamente serie de anime de Netflix! Cuando el sol se pone en la ciudad de Manila, no te atrevas a dar un giro equivocado y terminar en ese lado del metro con poca luz, donde los aswang chupadores de sangre dirigen las bandas de secuestradores más buscados, donde los gigantescos kapre son los los capos del crimen y los mágicos engkantos se deslizan por las grietas y roban tus posesiones más preciadas. Cuando el crimen toma un giro extraño, la policía llama a Alexandra Trese. Trese Vol. 1: Murder on Balete Drive presenta obras de arte completamente nuevas y redibujadas e incluye una sección adicional sustancial con bocetos detrás de escena, información y detalles sobre la creación del libro y una visión más profunda del mundo de Trese, como contada por sus creadores Budjette Tan y Kajo Baldisimo!
No estaba del todo seguro sobre qué esperar con este cómic, así que todo fue una grata sorpresa. Aunque poco se revela sobre Alexandra Trese, la protagonista de cada caso, se mantiene como un personaje interesante, atractivo, y con más de un as bajo la manga. Justamente es el misterio que rodea su figura lo que la hace atrapante desde el primer momento. Una jugada arriesgada que salió muy bien.
El estilo y el desarrollo están muy bien trabajados. Al principio me costó acostumbrarme a la lectura porque las criaturas aparecen de la nada, sin mucho desarrollo, y al final es que descubrimos quiénes son. Sin embargo, esto se vuelve cada vez más atractivo, haciendo de Trese Vol. 1: Murder on Balete Drive un cómic más interesante. No puedo evitar preguntarme cómo será la experiencia de los lectores filipinos, que seguramente conocerán a varias criaturas, pero para este desentendido funcionó muy bien.
Mi principal problema fue el arte al inicio, que se veía un poco descuidado, con un acabado más crudo de lo que prefiero, por más que combinara con el tono de las historias. A medida que fui avanzando, las páginas se veían mucho mejor, cada vez más limpias y atrayentes, por lo que no es una falla tan grande, al menos no para mí.
Trese Vol. 1: Murder on Balete Drive es una lectura perfecta si tienes poco tiempo o quieres algo sencillo. No hay grandes giros, ideas complejas, sino un bien nutrido grupo de personajes y criaturas que te atrapan desde el primer momento. Cruda y elegante a la vez, Alexandra Trese es un personaje que encanta al lector.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect with this comic, so it was all a pleasant surprise. Although little is revealed about Alexandra Trese, the protagonist of each case, she remains an interesting, attractive character, and with more than one ace up her sleeve. It is precisely the mystery that surrounds her figure what makes her captivating from the first moment. A risky move that went very well.
The style and development are very well worked. At first it was hard for me to get used to reading because the creatures appear out of nowhere, without much development, and in the end we discover who they are. However, this becomes more and more attractive, making Trese Vol. 1: Murder on Balete Drive a more interesting comic. I can't help but wonder what the experience will be like for Filipino readers, who will surely know various creatures, but for this newcomer it worked very well.
My main problem was the art at the beginning, which looked a bit sloppy, with a cruder finish than I prefer, even though it matched the tone of the stories. As I went on, the pages looked much better, getting cleaner and more attractive, so it's not such a big deal, at least not for me.
Trese Vol. 1: Murder on Balete Drive is a perfect read if you're short on time or want something simple. There are no big twists, no complex ideas, but a well-nourished group of characters and creatures that catch you from the first moment. Raw and elegant at the same time, Alexandra Trese is a character that enchants the reader.
