Manga: Mirror Moon

Buenos días, Nocturnos. ¿Cómo va esa semana? Yo acabo de leer un manga infantil al que le tenía ganas, principalmente porque es parte de una de las películas más perfectas de todos los tiempos: El Extraño Mundo de Jack. Hoy se trata de Mirror Moon, por Mallory Reaves y Gabriella Chianello. ¡Gracias a la editorial por enviarme una copia a cambio de una reseña honesta!

Cuando el maestro de los sustos, Jack Skellington, tiene el sueño de llevar su experiencia en lo espeluznante al resto de los mundos festivos, designa a Sally como la planificadora oficial de Halloween para que pueda dedicar su tiempo a su nuevo invento. Pero mientras Sally se coordina con los residentes de Halloween Town, queda claro que algo anda muy mal. ¡Es casi como si hubiera un doppelganger secreto merodeando a sus espaldas! ¿Podrá llegar al fondo de este misterio a tiempo para salvar las celebraciones?

Publicado primero en cinco números separados, fue lanzado hace poco como una novela gráfica en digital, y pronto saldrá en físico. Es una historia sencilla, atractiva, y que busca principalmente a los que crecimos con esta película tan emblemática. Sé que muchos de mi generación ya tenemos hijos, y nos puedo vernos sin problemas viendo el filme original y luego leyéndole esta historia de Mallory Reaves a los más pequeños.

El tiempo se me pasó volando por lo entretenido de todo y el arte precioso. Diría que ese es el principal atractivo de Mirror Moon, lo colorido y a la vez oscuro que se ve todo. Gabriella Chianello mantiene la estética y el humor de la historia de Burton, pero con un toque un poco más moderno, escenas más contemporáneas, y dándole su propia personalidad. El efecto queda perfeccionado con los colores brillantes de Nataliya Torretta. Sencillamente excelente.

Sin embargo, debo decir que la sinopsis me pareció un poco confusa, porque no me quedó del todo claro si Jack quería lograr tener todo listo para Halloween en tiempo récord o hacerse con el control de las demás fiestas. Se supone que era el argumento principal de la historia, y todo se enfocó más en Sally y su forma de lidiar con todo. No está mal, pero hubiera preferido un guión mejor trabajado.

En general, es imposible no amar Mirror Moon. Los que crecimos con Jack y Sally revivimos nuestra infancia en cuestión de segundos, atrapados por la magia del Halloween, y la nueva generación quedará encantada con un clásico moderno cuyo mundo sigue creciendo. Aunque no es perfecto, es un homenaje fácil de disfrutar.

I just read a children's manga that I was really looking forward to, mainly because it's part of one of the most perfect movies of all time: The Nightmare Before Christmas. When the master of scares Jack Skellington has a dream about bringing his expertise in spookiness to the rest of the holiday worlds, he appoints Sally the official Halloween planner so he can spend his time on his newest invention. But as Sally coordinates with the Halloween Town residents, it becomes clear that something is very wrong. It's almost as if there's a secret doppelganger sneaking around behind her back! Can she get to the bottom of this mystery in time to save the celebrations?

First published in five separate issues, it was recently released as a digital graphic novel, with a physical release coming soon. It is a simple, attractive story, and that mainly seeks those of us who grew up with this emblematic movie. I know that many of my generation already have children, and I can easily see us watching the original film and then reading this Mallory Reaves story to the little ones.

Time flew by because of how entertaining everything was and the beautiful art. I'd say that's the main draw of Mirror Moon, how colorful yet dark everything looks. Gabriella Chianello maintains the aesthetics and humor of Burton's story, but with a slightly more modern touch, more contemporary scenes, and giving it its own personality. The effect is perfected with the bright colors of Nataliya Torretta. Simply excellent.

However, I must say that the synopsis seemed a bit confusing to me, because it was not entirely clear to me if Jack wanted to get everything ready for Halloween in record time or take control of the other festivities. It was supposed to be the main plot of the story, and everything focused more on Sally and her way of dealing with everything. It's not bad, but I would have preferred a better script.

In general, it is impossible not to love Mirror Moon. Those of us who grew up with Jack and Sally relive our childhood in a matter of seconds, caught up in the magic of Halloween, and the new generation will be enchanted by a modern classic whose world continues to grow. Although not perfect, it is an easy-to-enjoy homage.
