Buenos días, gente. Espero que estén bien. Hace un tiempo hice un mini maratón de terror gore con un tal Freddy Krueger, empezando por la primera película y las dos siguientes. Hoy les quiero hablar sobre la segunda, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, de Jack Sholder.

Un adolescente es perseguido en sus sueños por el asesino de niños fallecido Freddy Krueger, quien quiere poseerlo para continuar su reinado de terror en el mundo real.

Esta película me dejó un sabor agridulce en la boca por muchas razones. El guión me pareció errático, por más que habían buenas ideas y una propuesta interesante. Tuve un desarrollo extraño, muy diferente a la primera película y sentí que estaba viendo algo diferente, una mezcla rara entre secuela y auto parodia. Por ejemplo, ¿un ave poseída? No me extraña que Craven decidiera no participar en esto.

La sexualidad de Jesse ((Mark Patton) fue motivo de muchas especulaciones hasta que finalmente se aclaró que Jesse es gay, aunque eso terminó por arruinar la carrera de Patton. Creo que se podría haber manejado de otra manera, sin tantos mensajes subliminales, pero con un mejor desarrollo, porque hay más de una escena que no me convence, como ese bar, seguida por la escena en el gimnasio o a Freddy en la fiesta. No tienen mucho sentido.

Lo único que sí salvaría es al elenco y sus actuaciones. Hicieron un muy buen trabajo a pesar de que guión tan pobre. El protagonismo compartido entre Jesse Walsh y Lisa Webber (Kim Myers) tuvo buen resultado en cuanto al desarrollo, rompiendo un poco la estructura y lo que normalmente se espera de los protagonistas masculinos, pero dándole al público más convencional su scream queen, ¿o debería decir dos?

Aunque pudo haber sido mucho mejor, diría que incluso hay material un remake que la reinvindique, me gusta el trabajo de Jack Sholder. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge es una joya inusual en su propio sentido. Quizás incluso pueda decir que es un producto de su tiempo, un reflejo de la época en la que fue creada, donde la sociedad necesitaba despertar con respecto a muchos temas.

Good morning people. I hope they are well. Some time ago I did a mini horror gore marathon with a certain Freddy Krueger, starting with the first movie and the next two. Today I want to talk about the second one, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, by Jack Sholder.

A teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world.

This movie left a bittersweet taste in my mouth for many reasons. The script seemed erratic to me, even though there were good ideas and an interesting proposal. I had a strange development, very different from the first movie and I felt like I was watching something different, a weird mix between sequel and self parody. For example, a possessed bird? No wonder Craven chose not to participate in this.

Jesse's (Mark Patton) sexuality was the subject of much speculation until it was finally clarified that he is gay, although that ended up ruining Patton's career. I think it could have been handled differently, without so many subliminal messages, but with a better development, because there's more than one scene that doesn't convince me, like that bar, followed by the scene in the gym or Freddy at the party. They don't make much sense.

The only thing that would save is the cast and their performances. They did a very good job despite the poor script. The shared lead between Jesse Walsh and Lisa Webber (Kim Myers) paid off well in terms of development, slightly breaking the structure and what is normally expected of male leads, but giving the more mainstream audience their scream queen, or should I say two?

Although it could have been much better, I would say that there's even material for a remake that vindicates it, I like the work of Jack Sholder. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is an unusual gem in its own sense. Perhaps I can even say that it is a product of its time, a reflection of the era in which it was created, where society needed to wake up on many issues.
