Buen día, gente. ^^ Espero que estén bien. Yo sigo trabajando en Proyecto Unseelie, y para honrar el espíritu de este mes santo, estoy leyendo varias novelas de horror, góticas o de fantasía oscura. Hoy vengo con una que me pareció bastante interesante y que podría llamarles la atención. Se trata de Black Annis: Demon Hunter, de Aubrey Law, el primer libro de su saga Revenge of the Witch. ¡Gracias a Booktasters por hacerme saber de esta novela!

Poderosos necromantes, mortales archidemonios e incluso los ángeles del cielo quieren derramar la sangre de Black Annis. Aquellos que buscan matarla no descansarán hasta que ella muera nuevamente y su alma oscura sea devuelta al Lago de Fuego.

La sinopsis me atrapó en el acto. ¿Una bruja sedienta de venganza que vuelve del infierno para cazar a sus enemigos? ¡Claro que sí! Esta novela tiene todos los ingredientes correctos para hacerla entretenida y atrapante. Las brujas son personajes de los que jamás me canso, y Black Annis fue una que me sorprendió por lo hábil y letal que puede ser.

El estilo de la autora es bastante sencillo, haciendo de esta una lectura rápida y fácil de disfrutar. El tiempo se te pasa volando, aunque no niego que me hubiese gustado que Aubrey Law diera más detalles en cuanto a las descripciones. El mundo está bien construido y tenemos una mirada bastante completa a la manera en que opera esta nueva Tierra, pero hay escenas que carecen de ese desarrollo que te hace sumergirte de lleno, y el inicio me pareció que podía ser más extenso, detallando mejor la evolución de Annis.

Antes de entrar en los detalles de este libro, quiero aclarar que hay una nueva edición en proceso que será publicada en 2021, así que seguramente varios puntos que mencione aquí no estarán presentes. Mi principal problema fue que el libro contradijo en ocasiones su propia mitología (SPOILER se nos dice que los ángeles necesitan perder sus plumas cuando caen, una por día, pero luego dicho ángel se convierte en demonio en cuestión de horas, por ejemplo FIN), y que el estilo a veces intentaba causar impacto, y esto provoca el efecto contrario. Algunos diálogos me parecieron también más extensos de lo que deberían, si soy franco, restándole poder.

Sin embargo, Black Annis: Demon Hunter es una lectura que se disfruta bastante. Es agridulce por los detalles que mencioné, pero confío en que la próxima edición deje un mejor resultado, ya que el personaje de Annis es prometedor y tengo tiempo sin ver una bruja competente. Por más que traten de matarla, esta mujer es de armas tomar y de temer. Buena lectura para Octubre, eso es seguro.

Today I come with one that I found quite interesting and that could attract your attention. This is Black Annis: Demon Hunter, by Aubrey Law, the first book in her Revenge of the Witch saga. The hunt for her enemies has begun but the woman's body she selfishly possessed will change Annis in ways she never imagined possible. Can a Black Witch's cold empty heart ever know love?

The synopsis got me right away. A revenge-hungry witch who returns from hell to hunt down her enemies? Bring it on! This novel has all the right ingredients to make it entertaining and engaging. Witches are characters that I never tire of, and Black Annis was one that surprised me with how slick and deadly she can be.

The author's style is fairly straightforward, making this a quick read and easy to enjoy. Time goes flying by, although I don't deny that I would have liked Aubrey Law to give more details regarding the descriptions. The world is well built and we have a fairly complete look at the way this new Earth operates, but there are scenes that lack that development that makes you fully immerse yourself, and the beginning seemed to me that it could be more extensive, better detailing Annis' evolution.

Before going into the details with this book, I want to clarify that there's a new edition in process that will be published in 2021, so surely several points that I mention here will not be present. My main problem was that the book sometimes contradicted its own mythology (SPOILER we are told that angels need to loose their feathers when they fall, one per day, but then said angel is turned into a demon in a matter of hours, for example END), and that the style sometimes tried to make an impact, and this had the opposite effect. Some dialogues also seemed to me to be longer than they should, if I'm frank, taking power away.

However, Black Annis: Demon Hunter is a very enjoyable read. It's bittersweet for the details I mentioned, but I'm confident that the next edition will leave a better result, since the character of Annis is promising and I haven't seen a competent witch in a while. No matter how hard they try to kill her, this woman has weapons to take and is to be feared. Great book for October, that's for sure.
