Sandman 4: Estación de Nieblas / Season of Mists

Buenos días, Nocturnos. Espero que todos estén bien, sanos y salvos. Hoy quiero contarles mi opinión al respecto de el cuarto volumen de Sandman, Estación de Nieblas, de Neil Gaiman. Es un libro que disfruté muchísimo, y que me puso a pensar también.

Hace diez mil años, Morfeo condenó a una mujer que lo amaba al infierno. Ahora los otros miembros de su familia inmortal, Los Eternos, han convencido al Rey de los Sueños de que esto era una injusticia. Para enmendarlo, Morfeo debe regresar al infierno para rescatar a su amor desterrado, y el gobernante del infierno, el ángel caído Lucifer, ya ha jurado destruirlo.

Este volumen está lleno de sorpresas, una tras otra. El primer número, el prólogo, establece muy bien el tono que seguirá este libro, y nos permite conocer mejor a los Eternos como familia y personaje. Una vez que Morfeo decide actuar, las cosas se tuercen mucho más.

Gaiman tiene tal facilidad para narrar historias que sorprende. Siempre toma la salida más inesperada, creativa e interesante, dándole un rumbo inusual a la trama. Este cuarto volumen hace justamente eso: nos muestra un nuevo lado de Morfeo, nos permite adentrarnos en su mundo y ver las cosas desde otro punto de vista.

Al principio me pareció un volumen extraño, principalmente por el comportamiento de Lucifer, pero una vez que te das cuenta de que hace lo más lógico, sin mencionar te pierdes imaginando las consecuencias en el futuro del universo de Sandman, es fácil dejarse llevar y disfrutar de la lectura. Además, el arte es hermoso (ya puedo apreciarlo; qué bueno que uno crece, jeje).

La historia me recordó el efecto mariposa. Las pequeñas acciones de Morfeo tienen un efecto considerable en Estación de Nieblas, cambiando incluso al mismísimo infierno. Fue una idea ingeniosa, un giro de tuerca muy bien pensando, lo cual no podía ser de otra forma viniendo de Neil Gaiman.

Good morning, Nighters. I hope everyone is well, safe and sound. Today I want to tell you my opinion about the fourth volume of Sandman, Season of Mists, by Neil Gaiman. It's a book that I really enjoyed, and it got me thinking too.

Ten thousand years ago, Morpheus condemned a woman who loved him to Hell. Now the other members of his immortal family, The Endless, have convinced the Dream King that this was an injustice. To make it right, Morpheus must return to Hell to rescue his banished love — and Hell’s ruler, the fallen angel Lucifer, has already sworn to destroy him.

This volume is full of surprises one after another. The first issue, the prologue, sets very well the tone that this book will follow, and allows us to better understand the Eternals as family and character. Once Morpheus decides to act, things go much further.

Gaiman tells stories so easily that he surprises. He always takes the most unexpected, creative and interesting exit, giving the plot an unusual direction. This fourth volume does just that: it shows us a new side of Morpheus, allows us to delve into his world and see things from another point of view.

At first I thought it was a strange volume, mainly because of Lucifer's behavior, but once you realize that he does the most logical thing, not to mention you lose yourself imagining the consequences in the future of the Sandman universe, it's easy to get carried away and enjoy reading. Besides, the art is beautiful (I can appreciate it now; how good that one grows, hehe)

The story reminded me of the butterfly effect. Morpheus' small actions have a considerable effect on Season of Mists, changing even Hell itself. It was an ingenious idea, a twist very well thinking, which couldn't be otherwise coming from Neil Gaiman.
