¡Buen día, gente! Acabo de terminar una lectura y quería contarles al respecto. El mundo de Disney me encanta, y finalmente pude poner mis garras en la saga Villanos, en donde las películas más amadas de Disney se vuelven cuentos oscuros con los villanos como protagonistas. Cometí el error de empezar con este libro creyendo que se trataba de una serie, cuando en realidad en una saga, pero igual disfruté mucho con Pobre Alma en Desgracia, de Serena Valentino, que nos habla de la Bruja del Mar, Úrsula.

La historia de Ariel, la hija del rey de los océanos, es sobre cómo perder -y encontrar- nuestra voz. Ha sido contada muchas veces de muchas maneras. Pero la sirena siempre quiere más de lo que su mundo puede ofrecer, y su padre exige que viva dentro de los límites del reino. Su rebeldía le cuesta la voz y por poco el alma. Pero el poder del bien triunfa y Ariel emerge orgullosa y transformada. Pero esta es solo la mitad de la historia. ¿Qué pasa con la némesis de Ariel, Úrsula, la bruja del mar? ¿Qué la llevó a ser tan retorcida, tan despreciable y tan llena de odio? Muchos han intentado explicar sus motivos. Esta es solo una versión de lo que pudo haber pasado para convertir a la bruja del mar y en una odiosa y pobre alma en desgracia. El mal se forma en ti, no se nace con él.
Finalmente vemos qué fue lo que volvió a Úrsula la bruja detestable que nos aterró cuando éramos niños, y aunque no justifica sus acciones puedo decir que la entiendo. El nivel de trauma que pasó esta mujer es impresionante, y creo que cualquier estaría sediento de venganza en su lugar.
Serena respetó completamente los eventos de la película, agregando personajes nuevos y escenas que bien pudieron haber tenido lugar en el largometraje, y crea nuevas escenas memorables mientras que mantiene las clásicas. Es un recuento ingenioso que se mantiene fiel al material original, pero con suficiente magia propia para brillar por su cuenta.
Admito que estuve perdido en algunas escenas porque es el tercer libro de la saga, pero igual es un libro corto que se lee solo y se disfruta muchísimo. Me sentí niño una vez más, preguntándome qué sería de los personajes, tanto los viejos como los nuevos, lo cual creo es importante hoy en día considerando el mundo al revés en el que vivimos.
Pobre Alma en Desgracia es un libro que te hace soñar una vez más y te mantiene atrapado en todo momento con un lenguaje sencillo, directo, con la dosis exacta de humor y misterio. Perfecto para los niños de hoy y los adultos que crecimos con la película.
Good day, people! I just finished a reading and wanted to tell you about it. I love Disney World, and finally I could put my claws in the Villains saga, where the most beloved Disney movies become dark tales with villains as protagonists. I made the mistake of starting this book believing it was a series, while it is actually a saga, but I still really enjoyed Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch, by Serena Valentino, which tells us about the Sea Witch, Ursula (link only in Spanish).

Finally we see what it was that made Ursula the detestable witch who terrified us when we were children, and although it doesn't justify her actions I can say that I understand her. The level of trauma this woman went through is impressive, and I think anyone would be thirsty for revenge in her place.
Serena fully respected the events of the film, adding new characters and scenes that may well have taken place in the movie, and creating memorable new scenes while keeping the classic ones. It's an ingenious account that stays true to the original material, but with enough magic of its own to shine.
I admit I was lost in some scenes because it is the third book in the saga, but it's still a short book that is read in no time and you enjoy a lot. I felt like a kid once again, wondering what would become of the characters, both old and new, which I feel is important nowadays considering the upsidedown world we're living in.
Poor Unfortunate Soul is a book that makes you dream once again and keeps you trapped at all times with simple, direct language, with the exact dose of humor and mystery. Perfect for today's kids and us adults who grew up with the film.
